Here are a few quick fixes you can try yourself if you want to go the DIY route.  For gaps and crevices in your basement and around HVAC lines, you can use a sealant that is available at any hardware store.  Compromised garage door sweeps should be replaced.  You can purchase a basic sweep at a hardware store but we highly recommend something reinforced if small rodents are a problem.  The sweeps we install for our clients have a 1/8” stainless steel and fabric mesh weave inside that renders it nearly impossible for rodents to chew through.

Thoroughly inspecting the exterior of your home from the ground up to the roof is a smart idea.  You’ll want to check for gaps and holes as well as damage to soffits, gutters and the roof.  Any areas that are compromised can be an entry point for rodents, if they haven’t been already.  If you suspect that a mouse, raccoon, squirrel or other pest has already made its way inside your home, it’s important to address the situation immediately.  Once inside, small rodents can be very destructive and cause significant damage.
